I would have loved to have this Chicco’s Gym Castle Slide when I was a young boy. Castles fascinated me  – and still do. So many of my childhood games centered around knights, princes and kings.

This playhouse castle is a great example of combining  playground exercise equipment with a scenario that leads to exciting imaginative play. There’s a sort of mutual synergy. The appeal to the imagination attracts a child to exercise. The physical activity adds another dimension to their pretend play.

This toy features a plastic central tower in the shape of a huge castle.  Kids climb to the play area  at the top of the castle using the bright yellow  five step ladder. This is quite a steep ladder and provides an energetic climb for toddlers. It has safe easy-grip metal handrails on either side and wide steps.

I’m the king of the castle

The turret at the top of the tower is quite realistically castellated and has four windows. So young kids can easily look out for invaders coming from any direction.

The play deck at the top of  this playhouse castle is large enough to accommodate several toddlers.  There will  be no shortage of defenders at these battlements.

the long slide down

A large red wave slide provides toddlers with their exit route from the turret. This a a pretty long slide with a steep gradient so it gives an exciting fast ride.  We like the safety guard rails at the top of the slide – a well thought out design feature.

The slide has high handrails all along its length. Another good safety feature.

You’ll have to keep out of the way as your youngsters race back to climb up the slide again.

On one side of the base of this outdoor play gym is an arched window. On the other side is a large arched gateway. The doorway and window  are outlined in a stonework pattern.

The lower area  of Chicco’s  playhouse castle has a molded masonry effect which adds to the realism of this castle and also provides a foothold for interlopers to clamber through the window.

Inside the tower there is a large bench seat . This is no doubt designed for prisoners to sit upon whilst they ponder their fate. Or just  for sitting quietly and having a rest from climbing and sliding.

Have you room for a castle in your yard?

This is quite a large piece of preschool outdoor play equipment amd you need to allow a “fall zone” of at least six feet all around the castle and slide.
